About
Hello! My name is Basia. Nice to meet you. I am a Polish-born, Chicago-based artist and educator. My artwork sits on the crossroads of figuration and abstraction, between what I have observed and what I have imagined. My artwork is surrealistic, autobiographical, and symbolic, derived from written self-reflection, meditation, intuition, and play. I have exhibited locally and internationally.
I earned a BFA in painting and a MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. While a student at SAIC, I studied classical ballet at the Boitsov School of Classical Ballet. I also studied vocal performance, under Carol LaVorde at Columbia College, focusing on classical concert repertoire. While teaching within the Chicago Public Schools, I earned a National Board Certificate in Teaching (Elementary Art), through the Chicago Public Schools, Teacher Development Center.
When not making art, I enjoy spending quality time with my little dog Cedar, yoga, exploring culture through cooking, and outdoor activities such as hiking and camping.
