Eyes are associated with focus, truth, clarity, light, vision, prophecy, and awareness…

Eyes on Me

The series Eyes on Me, delves into the psychology of hyper-awareness, surveillance, and vulnerability through the motif of the eye, nested within swirling color fields. Referencing the concept of “circular anxiety,” the art works presents an unsettling constellation of watchful eyes—each uniquely rendered, bound together by a common orbit of color and form. The drawings are an invitation to confront the multiplicity within the self, and the constant feedback loop of inner and outer perception. The drawings serve both as protection devices and provocations — a contemporary meditation on consciousness, identity, and emotional excess.

I employ mandala-like visual structure often associated with healing and self-reflection, yet the abundance of eyes disrupts that serenity. Instead of calm, the viewer is met with intensity: the act of seeing and being seen, of internal and external scrutiny, magnified and multiplied. This dynamic evokes Louise Bourgeois’s idea of drawing fears into circles—not to pacify them, but to contain and confront them.

The eyes suggest the surveillance of trauma, the memory of watching or being watched, and the emotional weight of visibility. Are these eyes guardians, witnesses, or intruders? The ambiguity adds to the tension. Rendered with electric color and rhythmic repetition, the works draw the viewer inward, into a visual spiral of emotional recognition.
